5 Questions to ask yourself before investing in condos

Portrait of successful businesswoman

Condos are some of the most popular property types, not just in Phoenix or in the state of Arizona, but in the whole country. After all, it’s a great option, whether you’re living in a city or in a coastal area.

That said, condos are not for everyone. To help you decide whether it’s your cup of tea, here are a couple of questions you should ask yourself.

  1. Are you alright with sharing walls?

Right off the bat, sharing walls doesn’t seem like such a worrisome issue. It can, however, affect you, especially if you’re living next to a tenant who loves to throw some parties.

If you’re unsure but would still like to check your options, don’t forget to ask about the thickness of the walls. Some condo units also offer soundproofing features, or can accommodate such updates.

  2. Are you looking to build your social network?

If yes, then living in a condo might indeed be a great choice for you. Condos are ideal places to expand your social circle. And if you’re not looking to constantly socialize, you might still benefit from the sense of community a condo can provide.

When you’re shopping for a condo, take note of the development’s occupancy rates. After all, you won’t be able to make friends or enjoy the community atmosphere if majority of the units are empty.

  3. What are your plans in the next 3-5 years?

Having a good idea of where you want yourself to be in the foreseeable future helps in making real estate choices. This covers a lot of aspects in your life, including personal goals and career aspirations.

Condos are a feasible choice if you want to live in or close to a downtown district or busy neighborhood. If you’re constantly on the go and don’t have time to take care of home maintenance, living in a condo can also work perfectly for you.

  4. How are you with abiding by HOA rules?

It’s quite common for condos to have their own homeowners’ associations. They can implement a number of rules, including pet policies, party regulations, and more. More importantly, HOA rules can limit your creative expression. You might not be able to customize your home as you see fit.

If you feel that this is a huge issue, living in a condo might not be right for you. Alternatively, choose a condo with flexible HOA policies, or rules that fit your lifestyle.

  5. What type of amenities are you looking for?

One of the biggest perks of living in a condo is you get to enjoy a variety of features. That said, not all condos offer the same amenities. More and more condos are carving their respective spaces in the market by having targeted amenities that cater to a specific lifestyle.

For example, some condos also offer co-working spaces where on-the-go professionals can stay. Some have spaces that double as event venues, perfect for a variety of functions. Other condos are more resort-style, offering amenities such as spas, indoor and outdoor heated pools, and more.
